Iroquois Artisans was established in 1990 as a showcase for the Steatite sculptures of the Iroquois or Haudenosaunee . Many of the sculptors are traditional people, or people who follow the ways or traditions of the Haudenosaunee, the People of the Longhouse. The Steatite images are a spiritual communicaton, a gift. The communication is a reflection from the perspective of artists who have been steeped in a worldview which incorporates philosophies generated by ancient ceremonies and traditions into a unique way of looking at the world.
